Free Ringtone Promotions for Samsung Phones
Like a lot of people, you may want to change the ringtone of
your Samsung cell phone from time to time, and there are a lot
of promotions offering a free Samsung ringtone
online, but how can you tell which of these is legit?
Unfortunately there are many disreputable web sites online,
and as consumers, we must always be on the alert against
scams. In this article we will examine some of the sites
offering free ringtone promotions and test them out for our
self.
One of the biggest problems with ringtone downloads online
is the "hidden subscription" scam. This attempts to get
the user to sign up to receive a free ringtone compatible with
Samsung and other cell phones, but neglects to tell you about
the fine print of the offer. This fine print often
includes a monthly subscription, and once you are signed up it
can be difficult or in some cases, nearly impossible to
unsubscribe.
Obviously this is a very shady way of doing business, and
these web sites should be avoided as much as possible. A
good example of this ploy is a site called flycell.com, which
claims to offer you 15 free ring tones as part of a special
promotion. The company asks that you enter your cell
number and a pin number that they will text to your phone,
before you are eligible to download the free ring tones.
However, if you read the very small print at the bottom of
their web site, you will see that you are actually signing up
for a "club service" that will automatically be billed to your
account at the rate of either $6.99 or $9.99 per month!
Most users never read the tiny print at the bottom of the page,
and wind up paying a monthly charge until they discover the
subscription and cancel it. And this can be a problem in
and of itself, because the procedure to cancel such a
subscription can be very complicated, and some users will
simply give up and go on paying the monthly charge.
Jamster.com is another very popular site offering free
ringtones. Jamster does allow the user to download a
single free ringtone, but they require you to fill out a form
providing some of your personal information. Their site
is also somewhat misleading and the sign up forms -- there are
actually two separate forms -- encourage the user to sign up
for their own monthly subscription plan. Overall,
jamster.com is not as scammy as some other web sites, but you
still need to pay close attention, and as always, read the fine
print.
Another site that actually offers a free ringtone compatible
with Samsung and other phones is Freeringtone1.com. This site
requires the user to fill out a survey and provide a long list
of personal information, including your credit card
information. While the site does offer one free ringtone,
the trade-off is simply not worth it, as the company ends up
with so much of your personal and financial information.
So with so many scams online promising a free ringtone
without delivering, or requiring an enormous amount of your
personal information, how can you actually get decent ringtones
for your Samsung phone? One option is simply to go to
your phone network web site and purchase their proprietary
ringtones. Of course, you won't get a free
Samsung ringtone, but prices tend to be only about
$2.50 each, and you can be certain these ringtones will work
with your Samsung phone.
